There's Nothing Worse Than Career Doubts (But I Got Your Back)

Everyone has the odd doubt about their chosen field or career they find themselves in. It’s natural. Even if you have the job of your dreams it can become a little boring with complete repetition. Though the old saying goes, find a job that you love and you’ll never work a day in your life. Maybe it’s time to find that job? You might be going through a tough point in your life and are realising that your current job isn’t what you thought. Or perhaps you’ve thought enough is enough and you’re really going to go after that promotion. Whatever the case there’s no need to get your head down and think the worst. You need to take charge of your own life and push for success. People can go about this in a few different ways but the key is to realise that everyone is different, with separate skill sets and motivations. Find what works for you. These tips can help you get started!

Assess Your Level of Discontent

First you need to think about what kind of change you want to make. There are all different levels you need to think about. For example, you might just want to get better at the job you currently do. Perhaps you’re struggling to do your day job due to certain shortcomings regarding your skills. There are ways you can be more confident and build your soft skills. Being successful at your current job can really give you a boost. In a lot of circumstances you won’t be considered for promotion unless you’re already succeeding. The trick is to hone in on what you’re good at. If your IT skills are great then focus on that. If you’re brilliant at organisation think about how you can apply that to your job instead. Perhaps taking on more responsibility. This is for those who are happy where you are, but feel you need more of an edge to be successful.

New Career? Don’t Let It Frighten You

People, on the whole, struggle with change. It’s part of the human psyche. But if you’re completely unhappy and want something new then a new career can be the best thing for you. If you’re clueless about which direction to go in then it’s time to really open up your mind. There’s no point leaping in a direction which you haven’t properly planned out. Don’t leave your current role unless you know exactly what you want. There’s nothing worse than being left in limbo with no income. You can get around this by really putting your mind to what you want to do. Do you want to follow your passion and find your career in something you love? Work out the best entry point and go from there. Planning is the best thing you can do at an early stage and the best thing is you don’t have to tell anyone.

Back To Class Or Entry Level Position?

All professions are different. However, for the main there are two ways you can become employed. First, you can start at the entry level. Unfortunately this comes with low pay and in most cases few benefits. The other way to enter your new industry is by going to college to learn the skills you need. This is the longer route, but it means you’ll be able to enter your new industry at a higher level. You need to weigh up whether it’s better to stay in your current role for longer or leave sooner. If what you do is high intensity, with you putting in a whole lot of hours it might not even be possible to study part time. In that case it might be better to move into a more relaxed role in the meantime.

Want To Move But Not Sure Where?

It happens all the time. People have had enough and want to move but they don’t exactly know where they want to go or what they want to do. Only that they want something else. There are a few routes to take, depending on what kind of remuneration you’d like. You need to build up your skills to make yourself more marketable. You can think about HR courses, they’re always desirable. Or project management. Learning a language is another way you can make yourself marketable. This is especially useful if you want to move to another country. Programming and IT are other sectors which are universal and needed by a lot of businesses. You can speed this up by learning something you have already got some proficiency in.
